Don't know much about all the others but me and everyone I fish with use a vex and have never seen any of them have a issue (and some of them have been slapped around good over the years). I have the FL-18 with dule cone ducer and like that alot and it can adjust for shallow water with the turn of a nob. The Fl-8 is a great unit also. and the FL-20 I just do not see that much more for the price.

keep in mind what type of flasher what your fishing buddies use, some different makes are not compatable with others and cause interference at close range, if you fish alone, no prob. but if your buddies all use Vex, and you wanna share holes, get a Vex, I have heard others complain about differant brands making interferance w/ differant frequencies. just something to keep in mind when doing your research, ask alot of questions before you buy, they arn't cheap, and you will be happy & so will your fishing buddies. Food for thought, hopefully it will be fish.

The Vex is a great flasher... But I wish I had a Marcum. My friend has a marcum. he has no problems no matter what kind of equipment is around. I get interferance even with the IR turned on... And if someone has a marcum around you it will screw with your vex but not with another marcum. Just my experiance though. most people still seem to like the vexlar

I do not own a flasher and have only used them on the odd occasion but from what I understand all of the Marcum's and Vexilars on the market are good units.

I don't know if I have ever heard a bad review of either brand. All of their models perform very well, its just a matter of how much you want to spend and what extra features you decide you can't live without.

The interference thing is probably the biggest issue you will want to consider. Like it was said above if you fish alone don't worry about it, this won't be an issue for you. But if you do fish with friends you may want to stick with their brand of choice. If you tend to fish in the large ice fishing villages that form on the lakes a Marcum will probably do a better job at filtering out all the interfernce in that case.

I would advise you just figure out what your price range is and then buy either a vex or marcum that fits your wallet. Both are quality products that I'm sure you will be happy with.

This has come up every year about this time. Last year we found the old threads. This year I found last year's thread, which has a link to the other threads inside it. Texan, you wil lsee a bunch of other posts that hopefully will help.

Webdude, please hotlink. And, as a respectful suggestion, maybe you should consider making this a sticky or permanent post. You never knw when someone will want tl talk about ice fishing . . .

It seems that there is about a 50/50 split on the Marcum/Vexilar.

I would like to know what Logan ultimately bought and whether he is/was happy w/it. Same w/anyone else who has bought one recently.
