"It was the fish of a lifetime," says Ryan Bristle about the 48" muskie he caught Friday, Oct. 17 at Big Pelican Lake in northwest Minnesota.

By the way... it was released.

Awesome fish.

I do not want to start a catch v. keep debate/argument here. I would have released the fish too.

But from the pic it looks like the fish is bleeeding out of the gills. Isn't that when you are supposed to keep it?

Pictures can be deceiving, so its hard to tell what that is under its gills, but if its blood, I'm not sure that fish survived. I hope it did.

ok, maybe i should read everything instead of just looking at the fish. That is the great fisherman in you. I caught 4 muskies last year.49 1/2, 48, 38 and a 32 and let them all go. I want a 50+ or better for my wall

Yeah, I read it and saw he released it.

My question is, if that is blood on its side and it was bleeding from the gills, should he have kept it b/c it wasn't going to make it. Its hard to tell from a picture though whether that's blood from the gills, from where the hooks were in its mouth, or something else.

Great fish regardless.
