The Monday before Halloween I got a hot tip on a local lake that was putting out the rainbow and brown trout like a trout vending machine, so I headed that way on Weds and Friday (which was the last day of the season). Weds I picked up 3, Friday I limited and then some, helping a guy fill his limit too. 3 of us fishing together up there all limited in about 2 hours, and that included catching a few small ones that got tossed back.

I can't in good conscience say which lake it was because I was specifically asked not to spread it around... but if you know the far Northern Metro you probably know where it is anyway. All I know is that I took this picture when I got home... the biggest is 17+ inches. The catch from Weds weighed 2 lbs for 3 rainbows.

I'm going to try putting this in as a link, we'll see if it works... if not I'll repost the picture without the link... damn Flickr rules. wink smiley

Hey Airchair nice job! cool smiley I would keep that to myself to if I were you.But you proved that you dont have to drive a 100 miles to catch nice trout! Living up here by Duluth we have alot of choices so not to many people on the lakes. But down where you are you have your honey hole. Once again nice catch!!

Thanks guys... I'd never caught a trout before in my life, but it was pretty fantastic fun, and I was grateful to be able to play. We had a couple of them for supper on Nov 1 and, let me just say, I've never been a huge fan of skin-on salmon... but I ate the one I had on Saturday right down to bare bones, including the skin! SOOOOOOOO tasty.

I can see how people get totally hooked on trout fishing. Well, and catfish fishing, and walleye fishing, and northern fishing, and crappie fishing, and panfishing.

Oh dear god... I am hooked! wink smiley

1/32 oz pink-and-white jig tipped with either a waxy, a 1/2 chunk of crawler or both.

I actually had the best luck on the combo. I was fishing down about 2 feet under a bobber with a 4# mono tippet on 10# spiderwire.

I lost a couple before I got the hang of the lighter action needed for the hook sets with this combo... it was great fun though.
