The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is considering experimental fishing regulations for Lake Sylvia and will be seeking community input at a meeting Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Southside Township Hall, 8209 County Road 3 NW, Annandale.
The proposed regulations are: daily bag limit of five sunfish, five crappie, three walleye per day (with a 17-inch minimum size); 12-20 inch protected slot for largemouth bass, six fish limit with one over 20 inches. Also, a protected slot limit of 24-36 inches for northern pike (daily bag of three, one over 36 inches). If approved, the regulations would take effect in 2009 and be in place for 10 years. The regulations will improve the size structure of the sport fish populations; and conserve and redistribute the catch of all species. Written comments will be accepted through Sept. 23, 2008, for those who are not able to attend the meeting. For more information, contact Paul Diedrich, Montrose Area Fisheries Office, 7372 State Highway 25 SW, Montrose, Minn. 55363; (763) 675-3301; paul.diedrich@dnr.state.mn.us.
