I've been coming up and fishing Clearwater Lake for the last 19 years. There are no resorts left on the lake and we have been lucky enough to find a condo owner that would rent to us for a week in September. Not any more. We were lucky enough to find another condo but the price is getting stiff, $900 for the week. That isn't so bad but our usual 4 to 6 guys have dwindled down to just two of us. $450 each plus gas $100, plus license $42, plus food $100, Argh!! My best friend is not sure he can get his deposit back? Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can stay? There is a Travel lodge in St Cloud, which has some good rates but I hate traveling that far every day. Maybe it's time to try a new lake?

Topwater, I have a gentleman that comes in from New York. He stays in Buffalo Mn. Its only about 20 miles from here to Clearwater, Plus there is Pulaski and Buffalo lake in Buffalo. Both are good fishing lakes. I bring the guy from New York, to Green in Spicer, to fish smallmouth. If you have more questions, let me know.

Thanks Jim, Thanks Mallard. I went online last night and researched prices for different cabins. I found one on Clearwater that was priced at only $700 for up to 4 guests for one week. It wound up that it was the same place we had already booked. When my best friend questioned them why two different prices they agreed to give it to us for the $700. He just called me and said that we are backup to 3 guys and the now the price is manageable. 20 years straight and I can't wait!
Are there any other lakes with bass populations like Clearwater in the area? I met a conservation officer last year that said Chisago is a great lake for 5 pound plus fish. I have not seen another lake with the reed lines and lily pads like Clearwater.

Yes, maybe it is time to try a new lake. MN has a lot to choose from, so I have heard. smile smiley So try coming further north and doing some walleye fishing. I am not sure that I can post prices for lodging at Wigwam Resort in Baudette on beautiful Lake of the Woods but you should check out our website. www.wigwamresortlow.com. Let's just say that lodging with us in October is super low and that is for a cabin or lodge room. Fishing is awesome in October.

I've fished from Wigwam!

Great location, friendly hosts, good cabins and hotel rooms, and good pool table.
