Hey all, just signed up. I've had my most productive fishing year ever this year. I moved to Brooklyn Center just over a year ago and found out how close I live to some incredible fishing waters. Now I'm fishing for about an hour a day and all day on Sundays... long story, but it's a deal I have with my wife. wink smiley

I plucked these two gems out of the Mississippi from the 57th St fishing pier at 94/694. The smallie I caught on a worm with my panfish gear, the flathead I caught on a chunk of sucker that was left after the rest of it was chewed up by other fish.

I gotta sit down and count it out, but I think I'm up to about 15 species for the year so far... it's been a great year and I'm grateful to have been able to do what I've done.

Thanks, Iceman... much appreciated.

Let me clarify one thing, though: I'm MN born and bred. I grew up in Faribault and have lived in the TC Metro for the last 11 years or so. When I was in Faribault, I was fishing every Sunday for a while with a buddy who had a boat. Until this year, though, while very enthusiastic I wasn't getting out much. Since I'm working so much at this point, and I work from home (so I'm home and see my wife every day hehe) I am taking Sundays off to fish again.

Everything's been from shore except for a couple canoe outings (which were great, don't get me wrong), so I'm looking forward to making friends with boat-owning fisherfolk (HINT HINT heh) or getting one of my own (definitely, eventually). I've done well fishing from shore so far this year, though, and am proud of my species list from this summer.

Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to trying to keep up with what goes on around here. smile smiley

Welcome to the forum, ArmchairDeity! Nice looking smallie there. Lots of variety in the river. I've actually fished out there and have always found it pretty good.

The river is cool, but the river is strange. Let us give thanks to and for the river. wink smiley

I grew up at the confluence of the Straight and the Cannon, where I learned two things:

1) Rivers are extremely cool and provide countless opportunities for entertainment.
2) Rivers can be dangerous. As a result, as an adolescent, see #1. wink smiley

While I'm no longer an adolescent, the attraction of rivers is still strong, and it's nice to catch something out of one that's not a bullhead or a freshwater drum. Though I did fillet up a couple freshwater drums the other day to see what I could do with the meat... because I hear it's fantastic if cooked correctly.
