So who's planning on bear hunting this year. I cant go til the 2nd weekend thanks to the RNC. Im going with Bear Paw Guides at Red Lake. Thier baits have been getting hit even with the mast crop thats out now.

Got mine on opener. Sat on the stand for 3 1/2 hours (asleep most of the time due to an early dove hunt).

Are the bait stations getting hit good this year or is there to much natural forage for them...

In genearl there has been limited success in minesota this year kevin the registrations are down in most parts of the state....they say it's because of the natural forage but with the dry summer that seems to me more of an excuse then anyting....just my thoughts! smile smiley smile smiley smile smiley

A group of 5 of us shot our bears the 1st day, I shot a chocolate colored bear with a blonde stripe on it's back, I was waiting for a large bruin and was very discouraged because some other hunters put in a pile about 200 yards down from mine a couple days before season and it had drawn alot of my bears that I had been baiting since the 1st legal day. As I pulled up I saw them loading a large bruin, looked like the one I was gunning. Well I sat there for about an hour and this bear I had never seen came in, I shot her with a roundball from my .58cal virginia rifle (flintlock), she fell dead in the pile. Come to find out the guys down the lane were outfitters trying to shoot the bear I got, go figure. The bears are nocturnal now. I didn't get any good pics of my bear, I got caught up helping the others dragging bears. It was over 250#'s anyway, the pic makes it look smallish, there were 1 or 2 350# bears out there but not coming in during the day.
