. . . was the one where his poor family awaits the visit of a traveling preacher who makes the rounds of his parishoners, eating dinner with a different family each night and saying things like, "The Smith's fed me a fine veal roast. The night before that I ate sirloin steak with the Harrisons."
Being dirt poor, Patrick's family (young Patrick, his sister The Troll, his mother and grandmother) doesn't have any such food, so his desperate mother sends him out to catch some fish, none of them believing he can do it. With the family honor at stake, Patrick manages to somehow catch a big fish and when the preacher arrives they treat him to a fine meal.
I told my sister the story and now when we go fishing we consider the day a success if we catch enough fish to feed the preacher.
Do us a favor. When posting related things, like a bunch of stories, could you possibly do it all in one thread and then reply to that thread with more posts? The reason I ask is that the forum gets really cluttered. We would prefer one long thread rather then a bunch of small ones. We used to have a guy come on here and post a fishing report and then start new subjects for every fish he caught. Well you can imagine what happened. 20 threads all for the same report. I won't mention who it was... he would probably be embarrassed about it, eh Ted?
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
