Well, fishing on Bald Eagle has been spotty this year for me, but in the past two weeks it has picked up pretty well.

Bass and Northerns are hitting well on the weed flats in most areas on the lake. Best bait right now for me has been a yellow and white spinnerbait with tandem willow leaf blades in silver. I can't get a bite on the chartreuse or black colors. Bass are running up to 3lb, and the Northerns are pretty consistent at 20-24".

Panfish, as usual, are easy to catch, around the bulrushes at the sunken island and the lily pad fields on the north end of the lake.

I haven't had any luck with the sparse walleyes in the lake, but I don't try to hard for them, and Rocky Point doesn't seem to be yielding up much for the fishermen I've watched there.

Weekdays have been a good time, as usual, with only a few recreational boaters out on the water. The parking lot is about 2/3 full on the nicer days.

This isn't directly about fishing, but the house on the island was for sale a few months ago. Is is still?

Maybe MFP can move its HQ there . . .

I didn't know it was for sale. It wouldn't make sense as a year-round house, though. There is a pretty long period when you wouldn't be able to go between the island and the ramp, what with thin ice, and the like.

Frankly, I've never seen anyone there, or any boats tied up at the dock, so I wonder how much it gets used.

Lots of folks at the other houses on the lake, though. One guy yelled at me a couple of times for fishing in front of his house, and I wasn't even casting to his dock. I just ignored him.

Then, there's the vintage float plane that lives at the lake. I saw it doing takeoffs and landings once, several times.

For me, Bald Eagle is a lot like a lake much farther North. It's just 20 minutes from my house, but I go up there and can pretend I'm on some lake far away from the cities.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't want to tout the lake too much. I need at least one parking place at the ramp. ooo smiley

Last summer I caught a 42"musky while trolling with my Brother-in-law. The day before he guided him on green lake in Spicer where he caught a 10lb walleye. We went the Green for smallmouth fishing, as he had never caught a smallie before. Great day on the water.

Heading to Bald Eagle around 3am. Anyone think the fish be bitting that time
I've seen some old dude at that house on Cigar Island. I heard that he uses a hovercraft to get back n forth during winter.

No luck this morning! Got on the lake at 5am, they were biting by 5:30. Fished about 10 crappies (two people), nothing worth of size (6-7inch range, I like to keep 8.5+ crappies). However, I think I found a great spot for the crappie bite, might check it out again tomorrow!
