Hey Marshduck, hopefully you see this post. The Forum doesnt let me respond to other posts for some reason.

Anyway, I have fished upper st.croix lake for fifteen years and I have put in a lot of time on that lake...

If you want to E-mail me at logangotwald@hotmail.com I can tell you great spots for walleye, northerns, bass, crappie. Even trout which enter the lake via the brule river. It's not too hard to catch a crappie limit on the lake and walleye are abundant as well.. This lake is the true headwater of the St.Croix and it is all spring fed so the water is cold and the fish tend to be shallower than a lot of other lakes.

Remember that the lake is low so entering the mouth of the st. croix river is tough to do without slammin some rocks.

Hi, I'm new to the board and was wondering if there is a fishable population of muskies in Upper St. Croix Lake? I have fished it for walleye, but would like to give it a try for muskies. Thanks in advance for any comments

Mmmmm... I know there are muskies in the river, not sure about that far up. The river muskies are hardly targeted and you can find some nice ones. As for the Upper St. Croix Lake, I see they have Brook Trout (yeah, I know... brook trout?), Lake Sturgeon, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass and Walleye.

Here's a snip from the DNR...

"Brook Trout originally native to southeastern Minnesota, the upper St. Croix, Lake Superior and tributaries, and a few other lakes, they have been extensively stocked throughout the state."

Ya learn something new every day...

Thanks for the information. I'll have to do some more digging on that.

Just got word.. 46" Muskie just caught a week ago by a family friend.. I had the picture in my e-mail but I'll have to ask them if I can post it or not. By the picture I'de say they were in the middle of the lake somewhere on the north half. They also added a note that it's only the third musky in 6 years that they have caught out of Upper St. croix.
