Just curious if anyone had any luck Saturday in the northern part of the state. With the huge amounts of rain the river had huge clouds of sand floating in it. I tried a bunch of different lures with no success.

At least the weather was good and the scenery wasn't bad either smile smiley

Realy slow around here SN218

with the rains we had around here the rivers are just about brown which makes it really hard to see the fish and vis versa i'm hoping they will clear up by next weekend..

In my experience the fishing is usually bad for a day or 2 after a heavy rain b/c 1) as Iceman said the water is turbid/cloudy/dirty and the fish cannot see as well and 2) the rain washes a lot of insects and other food into the water so the fish have a lot more forage and can gorge themselves. Add in pressure changes, light issues with clouds vs. sun and perhaps loud thunder (I have read that t-storms can spook fish) and it sure can upset everything.

Like I said we had huge clouds of sand floating in the river.. you could literally make out the "clouds" if ya want to call them that... The amount of rain though is a huge improvement over the last couple years drought.. it might lead to decent July fishing with the late spring. Usually July kicks my butt as a bad time to fish the river and I have to go hit some lakes to find fish.

The new forecast for tonight/tomorrow says MORE locally heavy rain again.. sheesh.. it's hard to believe we were in a severe DROUGHT situation last year and this year we've had more than most places can handle.

Let's just hope nothing like Lake Delton (in the Dells) happens on this side of the border...

Article with a picture

I'd link to the News Tribune story but they don't have a photo online, the Chicago Trib does.

My buddies hit the cannon with no luck at all, they said the current was very strong and even tipped one canoe.

We're getting hammered again in the Cloquet/Duluth area.. huge downpours and 40+ mph winds.. thunder/lightning too.. amazing to get thunder and lightning when the temperature never got above 45 all day.

So much for the fishing being good this weekend.. I'm sure it'll be as dirty or worse again.
