Went up to the folks cabin w/ my Dad, Brother-in-law & 3 nephews, just a guys trip this time and had a blast. Got to eat as much meat, potatoes & beans as we wanted for every meal, and paper plates made for a fast exit back to the beach or boat. Was Happy to be appointed driver(not Capt, more like a cabbie, I let the Nephews run the show.)of the little boat. We did a lot of casting shorelines with plugs and trolling w/ orig floating Rapalas (Blue & white & Fire Tiger worked best) and caught alot of small Walleyes and Northerns. The first Highlite was when the 13 year old caught a 15"2 lb 13oz Smallmouth shorefishing. A quick snapshot and back in the lake to spawn. The next was Monday morning the 10 year old Hooked a large Northern, apx. 30" that bit throught the net while lifting it into the boat, argh! so no photo of that one. Sorry if this turned out to be more of a "fish tale" than a report, but I'm proud to say the X-Box never even got plugged in, even with the crazy weather. I hope everyone had as great of a weekend.
I did some fishing up there Saturday afternoon / evening, and caught about 10 walleyes and 3 perch in 5-6ft of water with minnows and colored hooks. Tried leeches and crawlers and didn't get anything. Wind was out of the East, which usually doesn't help the fishing. The biggest one was 16", but they were all released.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
