Was up in the leech lake area this weekend. Fished a smaller lake on Saturday and Sunday night. Not much going on there, few bass and small pike.
Fished Leech Lake from 10am-4pm on Sunday managed 1 perch and 1 small walleye between 3 guys. The weather was goofy on Sunday. Went out in 30 mph winds and fished in some pretty big rollers for a few hours with heavy overcast. The winds shifted quickly, sun came out and then the winds died. Fished in calm waters for awhile then the wind shifted again, picked back up and the storm clouds moved in. Thats when we left.
We fished the west side (Goose Island, Stoney Point, and the Hardwoods). Probably 100 boats between the 3 spots and only saw 2 walleye brought in both not big enough to keep.
Its tough to put in your time in those big rollers and not even get a fish. Oh well I paid my dues for next time.
From what I heard the bite was very good in the past days on leech, I am sure the funky weather just shut them down. We used leeches, crawlers, shiners, and fat heads on lindy rigs and various jigs.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
