I bet I spoke with 6-7 different friends of mine over the past few weeks about opener and they all told me that they couldn't go because they couldn't bring the kids! What? I understand if they are infants, but I remember fishing when I was a toddler. I was bothered by this and discussed it with some of my opener participants and realized that I was being a hypocrit. I had no plans of bringing any kids with me for opener. I don't have any children, but I am an uncle to many. So, I fixed the problem. I will now be fishing opener with two nephews, a 7th grader and an 11th grader...and my buddy...and my dog...and the boss...I may need a bigger boat Anyone else out there planning on bringing some kids?
I have twin boys, age 9, who have been asking me for a month when the opener starts. Not sure where yet, but we will at least get to the St. Louis River for a couple of hours. They do more casting for Northerns than jigging for Walleyes throughout the year. I'd much rather have them casting and snagging on branches at a lake rather than beating on each with sticks at home.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
