Here are the current regulations for all species for Mille Lacs at this time.

I actually forgot about the Northern slot so here you go wouldn't want anyones weekend ruined for having an illegal fish.

I believe the night ban is to protect the spawning fish... but i have been wrong before blush smiley also with the night ban during tournament season it makes it tough when going to the takeoff by water..

There is a night closure to take the pressure off the early season walleye. The majority of the fish harvested in Mille Lacs are taken in the first 6 weeks of the season so this is an attempt to reduce that amount. The early season night closure on Mille Lacs has been in affect for about 20 years. Remember to pinch the tails on any fish you measure. The Conservation Officers pinch the tail and sweep the tail back and forth which lengthens the fish some. Also I believe a fish that dies in the live well relaxes a tiny amount making it longer yet. This should be an interesting year for walleye anglers with the late ice out. I suspect a lot of small males will still be shallow with a few very large females still up there and catchable. Who knows the new state record might be set on Mille Lacs or Leech this year. Dave
