Lake Vermilion was berry, berry good to me. We caught a lot of 'eyes this last weekend. Fished mostly the points and shorelines. Green jigheads or plain green hooks with a splitshot did the best. Used mostly fatheads. It was windy out, but drifted down shorelines and points on the west end. There were 3 of us in the boat and we caught about 40 for Saturday and another 30 on Sunday. Most of the fish caught were between 30 and 40 feet. Seems if you could brave the winds, the more you could catch. I saw a lot of folks hugging calm bays and was told they did not do that well. Most fish were in the 15" to 18" ranges. Perfect eaters :-)
Lake V ermilion was wet and cool, but the fishing wasn't bad at all. It was mostly males at this time of year 10-14 inchers . Any time you get out fishing it is a good time but add an eagle or two it is nice real nice. The smallies are always fun.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
