My wife and I have a houseboat from crane lake first week of June, Information about early June walleye, northern, smallmouth fishing would be appreciated? Wondering about water clarity, bait fish, depth to fish in June, general areas? Sand Point looks really deep, Namakan has a lot of nooks to tuck in our of the wind, any thoughts? Any bear problems on houseboat trips?? Thanks for the help Bobfisher

Well, june is a bit off, but I will do my best.
This can be a great time for some good fishing up in that area. There usually is the start of the mayfly hatch that typically starts mid-June to July, just so you know. Most will think this a negative, but the walleyes can go after the emerging mayflies in the soft bottom structures and provide anglers some good bites when fishing the sand and muck bottom areas of the Kab. Typically that time of year, the fishing is at the 30 foot level during mid-day. Again, typicall, leeches and crawlers are the bait choice. Minnows if you want to go for perch and saugers. Might catch some Northerns too, some can get pretty hefty. They will be in the weedy bays where the weeds are just emerging. Trolling is best for these over the tops.
That's the best I can do, considering that weather and other factors are going to play into the specific days you happen to be there. Don't really know about water clarity and that stuff. Temps can be anywhere, depending on the preceding month.
Hope this helps.

If you head up to Kettle Falls there is a Houseboat site at bouy #4 and the fishing right there is great. Also, Mica Bay is good that time of year.
