Thats a tough one you could hit some of the discharges on the Mississippi river like the Black Dog areas around 106th and 35W but with the water temps so low I don't know if it be would worth. I went down to Minnhaha Creek the other day and pitched a few jigs, shad and got shutout. Red Wing is a bit far from where you are and a boat is pretty much necessary down there. Once St. Anthony Falls fills back up in a couple weeks after the draw down that emptied it there will be some Channel Cat action for sure.
Pier Bridge good question. I think it closes this weekend with Wisconsin game fish closing on Sunday(tonight). I think Red wing stays open year round, but I could be wrong. Of course in St.Paul it is catch and release year round.
On a different note Pier Bridge where are you going on opener? Since I sold my place on Mille Lacs to Jason,Chuck and Ryan I might have to go up to Big Sandy and give uncle Tod fishing lesson's.
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
