I am wondering where everyone went for fishing opener and if they had any luck?? We didn't fish yesterday as it was pretty cool out and we were afraid the fish were going to be down too deep and would be difficult to catch. Did anyone have any luck? We called a resort on Mille Lacs and asked them how the fishing was and they pretty much said the fish were deep and the fishing sucked. It won't be much cooler today but it's supposed to be sunny at least which I would think would bump the temp up a few degrees. We may go fishing today, just not sure where the luck has been.
Fished the White Iron Chain near Ely. Temps were hovering around freezing periodically. Saw snow for about 2 to 3 hours on Sunday morning. Fishing was average. Countless small eyes, had to weed out keepers. Caught one massive northern while fishing for eyes. Fish were much deeper than I assumed they would be for this time of year with this kind of weather.
I opened at Lake Vermilion. I stayed at Wolf Bay Resort. Very nice place and would rate it outstanding. Now to be fair I never ate there, all my meals were at Fortune Bay. The day was wet, cold, and windy. but the event was HOT and a good time was had by all. Governor Pawlenty, Louie Anderson and I partied like rock stars. Glad to be home now.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~ Chuck Clark
