Hello,

I am thinking of relocating to the Virginia area.
I am wondering if the whitetail hunting is good in that
part of the state? How about bear? Do the wolves come down that far
and have an impact on the deer population? How hard is it to draw
a moose tag?

Thank for your input.

That area does have wolves. When I drive through to Ely I see a few deer off the road so I would say there is plenty to go around. Moose are loosing ground in MN....sad to say. Numbers are down and licenses filled is about 50% or less. A resident could draw a license after just a few years, but make sure you've already found that moose, you only get 1 chance. With the moose population drop, licenses given out may drop...

Oh, the bear, they're there...and probably at a better population that the rest of the state.

MN looks great for outdoors. Not much is ever said about MN.
People always talk about Colorado and alaska. Colorado
fishing is horrible and don't waste your time bird hunting.
People every where.

i live 18 miles west of virginia.white tail deer are all over the place.as for the wolves yes they are around they come and go.moose hunting in minnesota is once in a life time deal.its like a lottery thing to get a moose tag i think.the grouse are all over the place also.but its better to go grouse hunting during the week other wise there will be alot of ppl out.if ya have a 4wheeler thats the best thing for grouse hunting.then you can go and explore more and walk some trails deep in the woods.

Steve,
MNhunter sums it up pretty well. The only other thing I'd add is, it's the gateway to God's country! wink smiley

Grouse all over. ooo smiley I used to love bird hunting.
I talked about alaska for awhile now MN and my wife thinks
I am full off BS. Little does she know the plan is set
along with my mind. I think when I get there
I will take 2 or 3 years of from work build my
log home and hunt fish and film the wild life.
Then get job.
Anyone know of a saw mill around Virginia I can
buy some logs, two sides flat??

Thanks for all your help. Most of the Minnesota
forums I have found are completely inactive.
