Hello everyone this is my first post. I am going to buy a piece of land and then eventually move to MN. I was wondering how is the fishing around Virginia? The whole state looks good on the map but wanted to get some local opinions. Also how far are the Stergeons from Virginia MN and are they only in a few bodies of water? From what I have been reading MN is the hunting fishing capital of USA. MN guys that move to Alaska say MN is better. Must be true Ay?
Thanks Steve.

Hey blessteve, Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!
You are right, there is excellent fishing throughout Minnesota. Up in the Virginai area, there was a lot of talk a while back about fishing in the mine pits. Seems that some of them actually get stocked...
Check it out...

You are also fairly close to the BWCA which will give you a lot of options. You are going to need a permit to get into there, but some of the best fishing of my life has been up in the B-Dub. Lake trout and walleyes. The Ely area too, heck, Virginia is located so you can get into a variety of spots without too much driving.
A little to the north you got Lake Vermilion, Trout Lake, Big Bay, Burntside, Shagawa, etc., all excellent fishing spots.
If you like to fish and hunt, I think you are going to like it here!

Steve,
Trout, Walleye, Northern, all panfish native to the state, large and small mouth bass can all be found within a hours drive from Virginia Mn.
A good highway system to get you to these spots and plenty of "local" knowledge to help you to enjoy your day on the water.
And combining with the other thread, until a few years ago, St. Louis County where Virginia is located was #1 for Boone And Crockett whitetails in the nation.
VERRRRRRRRRRY good deer hunting around there.
Pete

I thank all you fine folks that was some good input.
Sounds like paradise to me. I am originally from Philadelphia and have been moving around insearch of great fishing, hunting and lower populations. MN sounds like a better pick then Alaska.
Thank again.
Do you guys build your own ice huts or are they some sort of prefab? Is there some sort of anchor that screws into the ice to secure it?

Anyone built there own ice house. I was thinking insulation board and paneling. That would be light and cheap. Can you put your hut on the lake and leave it for winter or remove after every use?

I can't wait to move up there. I was just reading about spring sucker fishing. Sounds like a blast and no limit cause very few people keep the suckers. I got big plans for those suckers. Steve
