My daughter is getting married in August up in Door County Wisconsin. I was thinking of getting a little fishing in while I'm up there. Can anyone give me some good locations in the Northeast Wisconsin or Upper Peninsula Michigan areas to fish? Someone told me to just stay in Door County and that the Smallies will be hitting then. Any Help? I have an older Monarch Bass Boat that will not do well in waves, so I'm not sure about fishing in Green Bay or Lake Michigan.
Topwater 54, I would stick to Door county since your going to be there anyways. Sturgeon Bay is about half way up the peninsula. Sturgeon Bay is a man made channel that runs from the east to west coasts of the peninsula. It is 5 or 6 miles long ( Im Guessing) and ½ mile wide. It is full of Walleyes, Smallies, and Perch(big ones). You would never have to worry about the big waves in here. There is a lot of boat action that causes waves. Like WBL or Minnetonka on the weekend. I have never spent a lot of time fishing it, because Im always out on the big lake fishing salmon. I know people that fish it all the time and love it.
In August when your wedding is taking place, is about the best time for big salmon. You might want to consider getting some friends together and charting a boat. If you have never caught a 20lbs+ King you have to give it a try.
If you have down riggers you can take your boat out on the big lake. You just have to be careful. Ive been out there many times in a 16ft boat.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
