The last week in Jan. was slow, slow, slow. I spent the weekend at Twin Pines on the west side. Not a bite in the sleeper and the same thing when we went out searching. We fished a shallower break becuase I hadn't heard anything good from deeper water.

One guy near us did get a solid bite but it broke off. I talked with someone from the resort and he said a stray walleye or two were caught in other sleepers on occasion but nothing consistent.

On Mille Lacs everyone seems to think its becuase there is such a large amount of small perch available for the walleye to feed on. The fish are there they are just not hungry for what we have to offer.

But that is just one theory. There are also cycles to fishing, last year was a hot year, if you have a hot year sooner or later you'll have a slow year.

hey nofish i was out of twin pines the same weekend i think, 25th,26th there was six of us and we caught 3 perch, 1 was a keeper..the whole lake seemed to be slow and has been for the most part this whole year...we seen alot of perch on the camera and they just werent biting, we were only a mile off shore if that, i didnt think it was that good of a spot to place rentals but i guess its easier to maintain.

This is going to be one of those off years for Mille Lacs. Last year was great ice fishing and this past opener was nothing short of amazing. I will say that in the first since I've owned camera I saw lake shiners and even caught one. I've never seen them before. I have only owned a camera for 4ys and I'm sure they have always been there. It could be just a good year class for the shiners and the fish are filling their bellies?

Good luck and keep trying!

Chilly, I also questioned the placement of the rentals at Twin Pines. We were maybe a mile out at the most as well (house #52).

I never really expect to catch much in the rentals but it would be nice to be in a spot that has the potential to catch one or two.

We made a good weekend out of it anyways, alot of poker, a fair amount of drinking (we didn't empty the keg though), and we also went out to play football around midnight on Saturday night. Just flip on the car headlights and it feels like you are playing under stadium lights.

yeah nofish i was in #25....go onto ice road take left at third barrel and take first left it seemed a little ghetto...i usuallly go out of hunter's point on the south west side...that place has been great to go out of except for last year we couldnt drive out, the only reason we didnt go out of ther this year is that they were booked way before hand i guess. i really want to try rockmans new foam houses they seem pretty nice, and he seems like a good guy i think next winter whether the fish are bitin or not ill go out of ROCKY REEF'S good plug eh rockman.. thanks guys

I went out of Rocky Reef 2 years ago, before the new houses. We didn't catch much that year either, a few perch and a pout, although we went really late in the year and we were nursing hang overs most of the time.

Rockman is more then helpful and they have really good burgers in the bar. I would recommend going there for sure.
