I've had 3 buddies buy new jiffy ice augers in the past 3 yrs. Not one of the auger's is relaible enough to bgring on a fishing trip. All the them have been in shop at least once. I don't get it.

I had a 1983 jiffy I just sold at a garage sale this year. I hadn't used it for 2 years and after 3 pulls it was running great. I should of sold them that one.

I bought a Lazermag Electra 2yrs ago and love it. It always starts laugh smiley
and doesn't leave exhaust fumes in the house for hours.

Anybody else have problems with these newer Jiffy's. How can you make them work long engough to drill at least 10 holes?

walldigger,
I have had a few buddies with the same problems! It seems like the newer ones aren't Nearly as reliable as the old ones. For the price they sure should be. So are you telling me last week on BSL you had some problems? cool smiley My hand auger always starts and runs ok, but runs out of juice after about 15"s of good ice. wink smiley

Bobberdown, Yes we had problems with Tod's auger. It lose's power when you try to give any kind of throttle. We did manage to get 6 holes drilled with it, over the weekend. He has had fixed 2 times. It's a carb. issue no doubt. The auger is in it's 2nd ice season and been repaired 2 times that is a joke.

Iceman I don't know what model they bought, I think the biggest one. They all are drilling 10" holes. I did not know Jiffy @ Strike Master use the same power heads.

I do know if you buy a John Deere from Home Depot, it is not same quality you get from John Deere dearler(you pay for what you get).

I don't if this is the same type of thing or not.

I don't mean to bash Jiffy at all. I just think they need to make a better product like they have in the past.

Wallydigger,
I have owned Jiffys for better than 15 years. My first one “Ole Betsy” was the kind that your right hand went into a handle on top of the auger with the throttle and your left hand rested on a straight round bar that came out about 18inches from the machine. It was old but worked well and started even with the oldest gas in it. Usually running at half choke most of the time. I admit I didn’t take good care of it but it took good care of me. My second one was a late 80s model 30 10” auger. This is the auger that taught me about quality of our current gas and how to properly store your auger. I don’t think it was a bad auger it was more of a bad owner. I was much younger and didn’t care. I ended up selling both of them and updating about four years ago to the new 8” STX. This auger came with no primer bulb, a thumb throttle and a fish house handle. When I didn’t see the primer I was very worried! I can say in the last 4 years it has never failed me. This is why I think it never fails me. I use non-oxygenated fuel mixed exactly as specified with Jiffy Oil. I never mix more than 1 gallon at a crack. If I know that the gas is going to sit for more than a month it gets stabil. At the end of the year I run the auger completely out of fuel when I store it. At the beginning of the year I fill it and I am problem free. I am in the process of updating to a 8” STX PRO and it should be here by the end of the week. I can give you an update on this one hopefully Monday. You should ask your buddy those questions:
How did he store the auger at the end of last season?
Is he using fresh gas mixed correctly?
Did you let the auger warm up before drilling? Yes, it makes a difference!

I think they just took them to small enginge repair shops. I know one guy had problems with his right out of the box. He had a heck of a time getting Jiffy to honor the warranty.

I'll let these guys know that they can bring directly to dealer.

Thanks for the tip.
