i just recently aquired a permanent ice house for free, the only thing is is it weighs about a 1000 pounds, and the runners on the bottom are just three sets of 2 - 2" x 6" boards on the bottom....wondering if anyone has any ideas for ski attachments or anything to make it slide easier on the ice
Chilly are pulling this house out with a truck or ATV?
1000lbs is not that heavey for a pickup truck. You always want to drag the house and not have it run into your truck or wandering all over the ice while your pulling it around. Ask any resort owner on Mille Lacs they would rather pull a 10000lbs on White Oak skids than on steel runners. You just have alot more control.
If your using an ATV I guess I would put it on a trailer everytime I wanted to move it.
hey thanks for the help guys. im not sure that i want a set of wheels on it, if i were to do that i probably go all out and get a pre-fabbed shack that is a bit bigger than this one. i think i could probably build one but that would take alot of time. im also thinking that it might weigh more than 1000 pounds...i just found out that when moving it, to get it up on the trailer they used a power winch, that supposedly bent the i hooks that are in front of the shack...i dunno i guess the only way to find out is by trying...thanks again guys
we got a 20 ft trailer, then we jacked up the front of house then backed the trailer under the the skids a little bit.then we took a chain and used a come-along that woked very well.and our house is very heavey.
