Well I finally got out on the ice and we didn't do that bad. We didn't get out there until around 8 pm. drilled a few holes and gave 'er a whack. We fished until midnight anywhere from 15 to 25 feet using red and green glow jigheads tipped with fatheads. Typically we were right off the bottotm or maybe an inch or two up. Also used plain colored (red and lime green) hooks and even tried lime green glow hooks. We also used fluflus tipped with mealies. That was the best for the crappies.

How did we do? Well, not bad for the short amount of time we were out there. We hammered the crappies on the north east side off of some of the drop offs. They weren't as big as expected, but we were able to put 7 on the ice. Also fished the northeast side of the island and we managed to pick up 2 walleyes, one at 20" and one 22". Not bad for that lake.

Hey i'm wondering how the ice thickness is on bald eagle. Mainly from the public access from 61 out to the island. Any areas of this lake that have current or known for thin ice problem areas? Would really appreciate any input.. heading over there for some a.m. fishing here in a few hours so i'll probably find out for myself but thought i'd post.

also i'm brand new to the site.. looks like alot of ppl contributing information.. good site.

jrod,
Welcome to the site, we hope you stick around a while! I don't have any info on Bald Eagle ice conditions, but hopefully someone will chime in on that today.

Hey jRod,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Call me stupid, but I really was not paying any attention to the ice thickness. I believe in the spots we drilled, it looked to be at least 10 inches. There were vehicles out on the ice, though we walked where we wanted to go. I am sure this cold snap is going to help a bit. I am a bit queasy about putting my truck out on the ice, though I will if I feel it is absolutely safe.

thanks for the replies, glad to be here..

i wasnt able to get out as earlier as i wanted, not even close. ended up on the ice around 2pm. dropped lines in about 15ft of water on south east side of the island. pulled up an instant 9'' crappie. marked a ton of fish down there but couldnt pull much more up. Very soft bite/nibble the whole time i was out there. the fish are definately there though. heading back out in a few minutes might be going to a lake in centerville.
