Well... where have you been?

The ads have been there for months.

Why? Because I was trying to see if I could offset some of the hosting fees for this site.

Does it generate any income? No. It started as an experiment. Out of the past 4 months, I haven't even generated a hundred bucks yet. Pretty poor trade off for the thousands of hours I have put in not to mention hosting fees. I might even pull the ads off... not sure right now. Seems a bit more cluttered with the ads. Even a non-profit site like this needs to try to defray its losses. And believe me, this site runs losses like you wouldn't believe.

Get it? Non-profit. A for-profit site would mean I was making money somehow. Believe me, that is not the case. I have had others ask why the ads are there, too. It would be nice if I could at least break even, but I think that is not in the cards. Sites like this don't make anything unless they are used to garner sponsors and sponsor tournaments, sell stuff like tackle, t-shirts, etc. MFP is purely a hobby site. Getting one or two cents every time someone clicks a link is really not any way to generate any type of income...

In other words... I better keep my day job smile smiley

It's the only way I can keep a site like this going.

I can see it now...

MFP 2007 Income Statement

Net Sales                    00.00
Ad Income                    90.00
Gross Profit                  90.00
Admin Expenses        300.00 (hosting)
Cost of goods      100,000.00 (1000*100)
Net Income        -100,210.00

WOW!
I gotta get in this business!

Well, it isn't quite that bad. I probably put in a thousand hours the first two years. This year, maybe only a couple of hundred.

I noticed as of today, the ads are gone. Is this permanent? If so, I would suggest updating the FAQ page...

Yeah... the ads are gone. Way too many questions about those ads. Site looks much better now, anyway. So I had to decide... ads with a little bit of income to offset costs? Or the site having better aesthetics and loading faster... the aesthetics won smile smiley

I didn't mind the ads knowing they were somewhat helping to pay for the site. But I suppose if you can support the site without them thats fine too. Either way, thanks webdude for maintaining such a great place for the community.

I like the quotes too.

Great site for lake maps and fishing info
