Hey guys! Im new to the area and I am wanting to go fishing this weekend and actually catch something! Where are some good shore fishing spots around the twin cities or western suburbs area?
Thank you all for your help!

There was a whole thread on this somewhere... give me a bit and I'll find it.

Oh... and by the way, welcome to the forum, Caligrl!

Hey Caligrl,

Welcome to MFP. I think you will find the site fun and educational.

I don't live in the twin cities area anymore so I haven't shore fished there this year. I do however have a family member who lives in Roseville and he said he has done well shore fishing on Johanna. There are some rock piles out from the launch...on the west side of the launch as I recall..and he has been catching several there on live bait under slip floats. There is also a small sunken island about 3/4 of the way down the lake south from the launch. I have caught lots of fish on that sunken island in years past. I was always in a boat when fishing Johanna... but if memory serves you could probably cast that far and let a bait float over it... especially live bait under a float if the wind was working for you.

If you are thinking of fishing a little more consistently there are a couple of books available locally on fishing the lakes in the twin cities. They would be worth the money if this is a long term time frame for you.

Lots of guys on the forum here fish the twin cities lakes and will chime in I'm sure on any hot bites they know of. Several also fish the river... which is another idea you might consider.

Again, welcome to the forum!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and great ideas! I vacationed here a few times and have tried bobber fishing for walleyes and northern pike using minnows and leaches with some luck but would like some new ideas!

Thank you all again!

You're very Welcome and we do really hope you stick around for a while. You might just learn some new techniques. But I can't lie, bobbers and live bait is the way I catch 90% of my fish.

This is something I should know but don't. Seems that file just keeps getting bigger and bigger. smile smiley

Anyway..here is the question. Do we know of any place on line that has maps of the twin cities lakes on line? I know the Fishing The Twin Cities books show all the areas that shore fishing is available..is that available on line anywhere? In the case of Caligrl, or any other of the shorefishing inquiries we have had, it would be a tremendous help and jump on the learning curve for them.

If we could find that information it would definately be worth a link in my opinion.

Good Fishing To Ya,

Sounds like you need a better guide.... smile smiley
