I know tomorrow is the MN Grouse opener, I was just wondering if anyone was going out for it and where? I won't be able to make it out for a few more weeks. frown smiley

Yet another example of "sportsmanship" in action. How much money does it cost in gas, food, license, guns, shells, time, incidentals, gear etc., etc. to go shoot a couple of birds?

If you just HAVE to eat a bird you can pick up a rotieserie(sp?) cooked chicken from Sam's or the grocery store for around $5-$6 a bird. These are already cleaned and cooked...so no effort on the cleaning or effort/cost on the cooking required. They are also a good deal bigger than a grouse.

Why don't you have a chicken if you feel you MUST eat meat and leave the killing of the grouse off this year and donate that money you would be spending to a wildlife property restoration fund, a childrens hospital, or a drug rehab center. It's your money of course...but it sure seems a shame to use it to kill when it could be used to heal!

SU,
Everyone is entitled to their oppinion, but I really do enjoy walking through the woods and trying to shoot my dinner. I like cleaning them and eating them too! grin smiley So you buy your chicken (or potatos) and I will try to get some grouse! shocked smiley

BobberDown,

I appreciate the fact that you at least have a civil tongue and can talk in a rational fashion.

I can certainly appreciate what you said about enjoying a walk through the woods. Especially at this time of year.

However, I did ask a couple of specific questions that I am truly interested in hearing your response to...they were

1. "How much money does it cost in gas, food, license, guns, shells, time, incidentals, gear etc., etc. to go shoot a couple of birds?"

2. "Why don't you have a chicken if you feel you MUST eat meat and leave the killing of the grouse off this year and donate that money you would be spending to a wildlife property restoration fund, a childrens hospital, or a drug rehab center".

3. Isn't it better to heal than to kill?

Seems to be a fair set of questions for a guy out to shoot some birds this weekend.

Surfs Up,
Sorry I didn't answer those qusetions in my reply...
1. It does cost a lot of money $32.00 for the small game lic. Guns between $200 - $2000. Shells $5-$10.00 / box. You have a point, but it's not about the money to me, some people spend their money on surf boards and some spend theirs on hunting gear. To each their own.
2. I like Grouse much better than chicken, and who knows how fresh the store bought chicken is? it could be a week old, or 6 months old, I like knowing how fresh my food is. The same goes for fresh fish it doesn't get any better than catching dinner 2 hours before dinner :-)!
3. It's much more healing to me to be out in the woods taking in the fresh air and trying for some wild game (that usually gets away), than dodging the crowd at the grocery store to buy some 6 month old chicken.

Well like I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that's just fine, but if you're ever interested I would love to take you hunting and show you what it's all about.

To those who are going out this weekend, good luck and please remember Safety First!!! Never Shoot unless you are 100% sure about your target, and don't forget your Blaze Orange!
Thanks,
Oh one more thing - About the safty thing, never put ur finger on the triger enless ur 100% on the target.

SU,

Dude... who cares about buying the bird. Its the fun and the sport of going.

This site is made for this type of stuff not about going to the store to buy stuff or how much it cost.

P.S plz back down off BD.

Hey B.D. & other sportsppl,
Im not able to make it up north anytime soon but i hear the drumming reports in the Pine CTY area are up from past years the fabled 7 year cycle is peaking in the next season or 2. I haven't heard about when the Woodcock migration is with this weather, but fun to see(&eat)them also. (sorry SU, but i love it, and only bag dinner not filling limits)
on the lighter side.. i read this joke.. the word "veg·e·tar·i·an" is an old indian word for "bad hunter".
It doesnt matter if you hunt fish w/ a rod, hunt bids w/ a shotgun or both with a camera. just remember to hunt for knowledge a little along the way. Happy Trails
