Thanks Dude,

The young man's name is Jason (15) from St. Charles, MN. This was his first experience fishing for bass. He had fished for many other species and caught a few bass here and there, but this is the first time he went after the bass exclusively.

We started the day with some spinner baits fishing along weed edges. White Stanley Wedge with big Colorado’s where what worked best, although his dad was using some Chartreuse and Blue Strike Kings also.

Then, we reached some sandy points. Changed the gear up to some Rat-L-Trap baits. A few but not a lot of fish were hanging on the point. So I rigged up three rods with 3/8 oz bullets, Daiichi Blood Red worm hooks and some plastic worms and we went after the structure.

Jason and his dad had never used plastics before. Jason decided to try it. I explained how, where to cast and what hits may feel like.

First cast, Jason lands a fat little 14 inch bucket, then another, then another, and so on. So Jason's dad decides to try it too. Similar results. They are happy, but I like to get them a few nice big ones.

We move around the backside of the structure where two logs cross in a narrow X. I tell Jason to cast into the center, dad takes the left, I take the right.

I had first fish, around a 3 pounder, than Jason says "Fish". I quickly get mine off and turn to see his break the water. Nice fish! He gets it to the boat and we get it inside. 4 pounds. ooo smiley

Needless to say, Jason is now adding plastic to his favorite lures.

And yes, all bass were safely caught and released

Thanks guys,

But the true congrats go to this young man. I've taken a lot of kids fishing over the last few years, but he is one of a few that really has a lot of natural fishing talent, brains, a love for fishing, and the desire to learn. I'm going out on a limb here, but you'll see this young man on the pro bass tour in a few short years.

Who ever said the sport of fishing is fading out? As long as there are kids like this it will be just fine.
