I caught this on the St. Croix, just south of the I-94 bridge in Hudson. 2:30 p.m. on a smokin' hot day -- so it was quite a surprise (I was positive it was a carp until my buddy netted it -- fantastic fight). I was drifting with a leech and a lindy rig. I also caught a 24" later that day, and these were the only fish caught between 2 guys on the water for about 5 hours. Using the sticker on the inside of my boat to eye-ball measure, it was all of 27", so maybe 28" laying flat. I've always said it needs to be 30" to mount............but I'm definitely having "release remorse" as I only fish big waters like Milacs (or the St. Croix) about twice a year.

If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
