Hey dudes...I just got into town a few weeks back to get stuff settled for college. I hail from Southern California. I enjoy pursuing two great pastimes....Surfing and Fishing!

I have been looking at the site here for a while and found it to be a radical concept! A free site without sponsors...that rocks! I am just looking to hook up with a quick learning curve on the local fishing scene. Most of my other fishing has been for trout in western streams and then saltwater.

I have also seen some pretty decent waves crashing in down on the Lake Superior waterfront by the walls. Some really big ones at times. Does anyone ever try to surf , or at least boogie board, those waves?

How warm does the water get in the summer on Superior?

Great to be in Minnesota. I am jazzed about the coming year. Greetings to all on this board!

Surfs Up!

Welcome to the site.

I am not sure about surfing the waves on Superior, I am sure it has been tried but I am not sure what kind of luck they have had. The water stays pretty cold year round but this year the big lake has seen record water temps.

What type of fishing are you hoping to get into? If you are in the Duluth area there is a varitey of fishing opportunities, probably one of the more diverse locations in MN in regards to fishing.

Hey SurfsUp,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Surfing on Lake Superior... I have a pal who goes out there once in a while. He loves it. The problem is the water can be very cold, even in the middle of the summer. Sometimes when the wind is coming in, the topwater will warm up a bit, but I don't think you are going to get the balmy stuff you are used to. My pal dresses in a complete wetsuit when he surfes out there. He has even been known to head out there in the winter. Some of the storms can get some very big waves rolling in. As a caveat, I would be careful... even though there are sand beaches, there are a lot of outcroppings of Canadian Shield and to tangle with those rocks will hurt ya. Some people I know think my pal is a nut to even try, but after he spent several years in Hawaii, he got bit by the surfing bug and it's hard for him to sit back and watch those waves coming in. I think he even made the newspaper up there one year. YES... it's dangerous, but he's still alive.

SurfsUp,
Welcome to the site, we hope you stick around a while!
As far as surfing on the REALLY big pond, just be carefull when you get close to shore. There are lots and lots of BIG ROCKS! That's if you can stand the freezing cold water ooo smiley It might make you face look like that one. Welcome, I would love to hear about fishing in So-Cal.

Welcome to the site SurfsUp !

I wonder if you could put a trailer fishing line on your board and do some trolling as you surf...kind of getting the best of both worlds! confused smiley

Anyway, enjoy the site. I think you will find it fun and informative!
