We are planning a trip to Kabetogama Lake in early June. Can anyone tell me what we can expect to catch? This is our first visit to this part of the country to fish. What about mushroom hunting? Can hardly wait for vacation!
Been there last two years at the same time. First year six of us quit counting after 200 walleye in a week. Most were in the last three days. Almost all went back, there are slot limits and generally fish were too big! And frequently over sized by a good amount. We finally did limit out by the end of the week. Second year same party of 6 got almost skunked! Think the total was about 12 fish for the week, with only three keepers. Did get one huge trophy fish. Northerns present of course, didn't try much for those - what we did get were hammer handles. Hear that some places have smallmouth. Probably Crappie too - but again didn't try for them. Stuck to the water, so have no clue about the 'shrooms.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
