Well I got out for a little while Friday night with my cousin. We fished from shore in the Crosby park area. From Watergate marina down the shore to the east for a ways. Lots of walking and casting and only two bites to show. We each had smallies on the line, both jumped and both got off but atleast we had some action. Both fish came just to the left of the Marina one on a silver sassy shad and the other on a white twister tail. We ended up getting chased off that spot by a little old lady trolling in a boat by herself. She came and trolled by just 10-15 feet off shore right through where we were casting. We would have to hold off on casting while she passed by very slowly or we would have casted over her boat or her line. I guess not even little old ladies are willing to give people a little room. I thought about just jumping in her boat and fishing with her, she almost got close enough I wouldn't have even got wet.

Anyways we didn't let grandma ruin our night we just moved on down the shore. We fished until dark and called it quits. Not much action for anyone from what I saw. seems like a pretty featurless stretch of the river, not alot of apparent structure to hold fish.

Any tips on how to fish that stretch from shore?

Iceman,
The river drops fairly quickly in that area, you can go in up to your knees in most places I would think but you do need to be mindful of rocks and logs and unseen drop offs. The water is murky so you can't really see anything before its too late. I have never been out on a boat in that area so I have never seen the depth on a graph really showing the drop off point so I can't give to much specific info.

I know that some people wade in the Minnehaha creek area, some people get out there up to there waists if not farther. But again you need to know where the drop off is, one step to far and you would be in some trouble.

No flow and low water conditions make it real tough for shore fishermen right now.

From what I'm hearing as far as whats working now and I know probably isn't an option for you at this time is......
One do what Granny was doing "only try to be me more respectful of shore fishermen in the area" trolling shore lines with # 5 or 7 Shad Raps bouncing them off of the rocks to trigger a strike Fire-tiger would be my choice or run the the middle of the channel with some deeper runners #7 or #9's in maybe a reef runner with again bright colors.
I'm not saying plastics can't produce fish but they would be a ways down on my list this time of year.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.>

I tried to do as much casting parallel to the shore line as I could hoping to pick up a smallie or two. I knew it was going to be tough going, the river is just so low and slow right now.

I haven't been fishing the river much at all since around the opener but its nice to get out for a quick trip once in awhile.

I actually haven't really been fishing at all for awhile now, too much other stuff going on. And now my golf game is also starting to get neglected.
