I am wondering where is everyone going to spend the opener? How many folks are heading north, If you are staying around town what lakes are you going to hit? I am doing a mixed bag, kind of working and kind of playing. I'll be off to Lake Vermilion to help our Governor open the fishing season. I am sure I'll get out for a little bit. I will be sure to make the shore lunch and dinner on Saturday, Those are don't miss events. When I get back I am going to hit Lake Marion and Prior Lake and try to get to Minnentonka by the middle of the week. Good Luck to everyone.
I am going to be up on Big Sandy. Been doing the opener there for many years with a bunch of buddies. Fish aren't too big, but we have fun. We all go up a couple of weeks before and put in the docks. Might happen to wet a line for crappies at this time too :-)
I'll be up at Gull and maybe hit some of the other lakes up in the Brainerd area. Just started doing the 'eye fishing last year. Primarily I fished mostly bass in years past, but I did catch a lot or walleyes last year, so I am going to give it a shot on the opener.
White Iron near Ely - I'm new to the lake and breaking my tradition of fishing Leech Lake on opener. My research shows that it is an early season lake, and DNR posts good numbers and size of fish. Note that my "research" includes the owner of the resort that I will be staying at, so there may be some bias as to his fishing report. Good Luck Fellas PS If anyone has any advice on where to fish on White Iron, Id be grateful
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
