Fireworks were not the only thing exploding on the 4th of July. So where the bass!!!
To me, very few things compare to the adrenalin that comes from a 4 pound large mouth busting through the weeds or scum. Even better when they get more aggressive and chase the lures. You know, like when they chase bait like it owes them "child support"...
Last night was one of those nights. Not only was the top water frog bite on, but it was explosive. If they missed the frog or mouse, they would hit it again, and if needed again. Several times you had two fish chasing the bait. Now to me, two big swirls from different directions are awesome!
I suggest trying frogs with orange bellies. I was throwing Optimum Furbits and Spro frogs. Furbits are great because of the 'legs'. They use rabbit fur which gives awesome movement in the water. My partner was throwing some Scum Frogs and rats.
The best bites were coming on the weeded points, so try them first. If you can, try to land it on shore or right at the waters edge. Many strikes happened within the first few feet of shore line.
I hope everyone had a great 4th and until next time, remember, I never caught a fish I couldn't catch...
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
