Well... here we go again! If you have been visiting this forum for a while, you know that every once in a while I post statistics on how the site is doing. I do this because I feel that we are all a team here and you people deserve to know some of the information that pertains to this site. The site is 3 years and 4 months old and considering how young the site is... Well... it appears we are doing great! If this stuff bores you... just pretend this post isn't here. :-)

Don't know where to start so I will just dig in!

In May, which was our busiest month ever, we broke the 85,000 visits per month mark! Yippee Skippee!! We had 85,000 visits. 38% of these visitors were new... This is UNIQUE NEW visits, folks! We also have a new milestone in page views at 289,000. What this means is that we had 85,000 people on the site last month and they looked at 289,000 pages. Not bad... not bad! Something I would like to improve on, though, is that 1 in 4 first time visitors hit the home page and then left.... mmm probably not what they are looking for, perhaps. This is, though, a lot better then the last report which was 1 in 6. Seems they might be finding us a bit more interesting then before.

48% of all new visits were referred by a search engine, 17% were referred by another site, and 35% were not referred. What this means is that 35% of the visitors either filled in the site in the browser address bar or bookmarked the site. This is pretty much exactly like the last report.

So what are the most popular pages you ask? Well, I thought you would never ask!

Here are the top 5...

1. /minnesota-fishing-forum.taf - main forum
2. /minnesotafishingpictures.taf - pictures pages
3. /minnesota-fishing-stuff.taf - our directory
4. /fishingprofile.taf - people checking out our users, Huh?
5. / - our home page

The main forum got 203,137 page views... that's a lot of people looking!

On the search engine front, Google beat out MSN and Yahoo handily by referring a whopping 75%

Ranking has shifted a bit. On Google, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #8, sometimes #6. Minnesota Fishing Forum we are at #2. We used to have the number 1 spot for the past 6 months, but this fluctuates daily. We are number one for a whole bunch of phrases, though... minnesota fishing pictures, minnesota fishing directory, minnesota fishing pics, minnesota fishing images, ya da ya da ya da.

On MSN, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #5 - a slight up turn (used to be #6). Minnesota Fishing Forum, we are at #2... Not bad at all.

On Yahoo, Minnesota Fishing is placing us at #18 - this is a big drop. Minnesota Fishing Forum, we got the #3 spot. Same as the last time I checked.

You have to remember that these rankings can fluctuate daily... it's a jungle out there, folks smile smiley

Some of the phrases being used to find us. Here is a list of the top 10...

1. minnesota fishing forum
2. minnesota fishing forums
3. minnesota fishing
4. fishing minnesota
5. minnesota lake maps
6. banjominnow.tv - so what the heck is this and why are people searching for it?????? confused smiley
7. mn lake maps
8. Mn fishing pals
9. minnesota dnr
10. fishing in minnesota

mmmm.... Dontchya find this stuff interesting!

Now for referrals from other web sites. A BIG THANK YOU!!!! These are people who were at another site and clicked a link to get here. Here are the top 5...
1. www.stumbleupon.com
2. www.westwindwaskish.com
3. www.shipswheelresort.com
4. www.outdoorsweekly.com
5. www.howtodofishingeasily.com

I appreciate the clicks folks and you people reading this should check out these sites. What I don't get is 2 of these sites seem bogus. Can't find mention of our site on either stumbleupon or howtodofishingeasily. howtodofishingeasily seems to definitely be spam and why they are using this site is beyond me. Stumbleupon seems a lot like myspace. A good mention somewhere there perhaps?

Anyway, that's it for now. Not bad for a site that under 3 1/2 years old! The birthday for the site is February 26, 2004. That is the first day we went live. I would like to thank everyone for their support. If anyone has any questions, you can post them here.

I have 6 members in my family smile smiley

Look... I am going to make a general announcement about membership when I have reached my goal. My goal was 15,000 members when I started this. Why that number? Because that would make us the 2nd largest in the state. At least last year it would have. Pretty good for not selling anything, huh?

Second reason I am keeping it quiet is I have had offers on the site. These are big, mean business men who have no business in my business. The less they know the better.

Folks, there are a lot of people who come here and check us out. It's one of the reasons why I am so tight lipped about stuff. I am getting sick of 100 emails a day from people who want to know this and that, you wouldn't believe some of them. I actually got a post asking me questions about bacterial blooms and filter media. Huh??? confused smiley

Just hang on everybody, and let's see where this goes... okay?

I asked you the question about number of members some time ago and you said you wanted to keep that confidential for a reason. If that reason (or one of the reasons) is that broadcasting that information would cause you to be bombarded with offers to sell to someone that would turn it into a commercial site (or some other harassment), then keep it to yourself.

What I would be curious about, if the information is not sensitive for any reason, is how many people signed up, posted once or twice and never posted again. Or, how many "lurkers" do you have that sign in, read the posts and never post anything. But, as with the above, don't share if it causes you issues.

Congratulations on putting together a good site, and thanks for taking the time to do it.
