Just retired and finally have the time to try early, mid year and late year fishing. Heck, just fishing anytime. Going up to Kab. for the spring opener. Anyone have any suggestions on where to focus the first couple of days?

Was up on Kab two years ago. Its tough fishing, but look to about 4 to 8 feet of water between islands. I fished the whole week of opener trying shallow to deep water reefs, points, and holes using every classic walleye approach I could figure out, including Lindy's, jigs, plugs, spinners, etc. Everything except a slip bobber. So the last day of my trip I pull into a narrow between an island and throw out a leech and bobber. Then it happened. These fish bite as light as can be - I mean barely taking down a small float bobber. These fish must have been stacked in there, as I limited out in about an hour. So basically other than pike, I had not caught a fish the whole week, and here in the last hour or so I limit out on nice, i mean nice, walleyes. That is the only time ive fished Kabby in the early season, so i dont know if it was a fluke or not. I am a very serious fisherman, and i hit that lake hard the whole week. You might want to try out slip bobbering first and save a few minnows and cold fingers. And remember- they bite so light on the bobber that you sometimes think its dragging bottom. Hope this helps, and let me know how it turns out.
