I made what will probably be my last trip down to the Mississippi river last night.
The water dropped alot since Sunday, Minnehaha creek is also way down. The creek is now low enough that rocks are now exposed at the mouth of the creek.

I was only down there for an hour last night but saw no fish caught. I left pretty early becuase the worlds most annoying girl was hanging out down there. She was doing the baby talk thing to her little dog, and it was the ugliest dog I have ever seen. It looked like a skinny rat that was going bald. I couldn't listen to her any more so I headed home early. Between the annoying girl with her dog and a group of teenagers casting big spinner baits every which way it wasn't the best trip ever.

Anyways it was a good run while it lasted. Caught lots of smallies and a few decent walleye. I'll give it a shot again if we start getting lots of rain to bring water levels back up.

For now I'll do what I can to find some other shore fishing spots close to home. May try out Lake Snelling for some pike in the next few days. We'll see how it goes.

NoFish,
Maybe you should have offered to walk the dog for her and then used it for pike/muskie bait. smile smiley

No fish would have wanted to waste their time eating something like that. There was no meat on the thing, they would have just choked on the bones.

Hey Nofish,

With all due respect, I think using that dog for muskie bait was a GREAT idea. You take care of three issues at once---

1. You get rid of an annoying dog
2. You feed the muskies some protein, albeit bony protein
3. You get to put a hook into a ski' and have a great battle

It sounds like a triple win to me. So, tell me, what color was this little muskie snack of a pooch. I have always been partial to using little tan dogs myself. However, you can add any color collar as an attractor.

I bet we make a PETA website later today!

It was a gray and white dog, mostly bald but it did have some thin straggly looking hair. I guess if you did throw it out there with the right retrieve you might get it to look like a buck tail of sorts.

The tail would act like a good trailer.

With my luck all I would do is foul hook a big carp and then all I would have is a dog riding on the back of a carp on the end of my line. What type of line would you use for something like that?

My dad always said those little annoying dogs would look much better being dragged behind the boat with a spinner in front of it. I'm happy to see you guys liked the idea! smile smiley cool smiley

Hey Nofish,

Gray and white dog eh? So that pooch would be a great option for clear water systems.

As to the question you had about fishing lines... I have always had good success with 80 pound test dacron no stretch musky master line when I foul hook a big carp and have a dog riding on its back on the end of my line.

Incidentally, that dog riding on the back of a foul hooked carp is a great fall pattern for giant muskies. Not enough guys take advantage of it...but I guess the words out now.
