Well, it was a banner year for the opener up on Mille Lacs. Me and a bud caught well over 50 'eyes. All were pretty much over 20" with the biggest at 28" - Fished out of Garrison and Indian Point. If you could stomach the wind, the fish were in the mood alright! Used primarily plain chartreuse hooks and also jigheads tipped with leeches. Almost all the fish were caught in 15 feet. Spent the last four days out there. The wind on Sunday and Monday was brutal. It was actually kind if scary out there, but if you stuck with it, the bite was on fire!
Fished out of the west side also..Drifted lindy rigs with bare hooks, 8 foot leader and leaches. caught fish from 18 to 10' of water. Got some big ones but getting a limit of 17-19 inchers was pretty quick. Heading back up today
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
