Since everyone's results can work as a fishing report for others I put this topic IN fishing reports

For the first time in 3 years I didn't get shut out on the opener. Even though it was only 1 Smallmouth, 1 Rock Bass, and 1 Crappie it was fun even with the strong wind gusts. The Crappie was the 2nd ever that I've caught on the St. Louis River. Caught that on the shad rap that's shown in the picture. I'd say it's maybe 12 inches max but caught in a spot where I usually only catch smallies.

the pictures from today

Now, for other people's results (whenever ya get home anyway)

LIP (aka Lazy Ike Pebe) ... I fish at least 4 days a week during summer..if not a little during the day I'll make sure I get an hour or two in during the early evening. I consider it good exercise .. the walking I do during it if I don't get my daily 2-3 mile walk in smile smiley

Mallard & I caught a few walleyes ,100's of pannies.
It was a blast fighting those diggers.
The cool 40 degree high pressure morning made it tough for me to find the fish.
The massive amount of boats put a strain on the day too.
All in all it was fun over the 17 hour we had fished.
We hit 3 different lakes and here's a sample.

Nice work everyone! I finally got to meet Sand Burr, it was great! BSL was on fire, I noticed nice size fish and they were biting like crazy. I landed a 25" today about 4:30 on an orange hook and a leach. There was a picture taken and it was released. What a GREAT weekend!

Hey CK,

Looks like you and Mallard had a banner day. Congrats to you guys. Great pics by the way. In fact it sounds like a lot of guys had a great opener.

CK, your pictures appear to show that all fish were caught on jigs with either hair or plastic dressing. In fact I was surprised to see the large size of the shad bodies you had caught some of the walleyes on. It raised a couple of questions in my mind.

1. What was the water temp in the lakes you were fishing?

2. Where were each species of fish in terms of the spawn?
i.e. where were the eyes in terms of spawn, the gills, etc. and how about the largemouth? seems awfully early... but then again, what were the water temps?

3. I also noticed that you fished 3 different lakes in one day.....wow. I guide for Bass Pro Shops and know that hitting 3 lakes in a day is a MAJOR accomplishment. For the benefit of all the members of MFP would you explain your reasoning in hitting so many waters in one day and the differences in the watersheds that made each a successful outing for you.

4. I suspect that your VERSATILITY and ADAPTABILITY on this day was something that made your fishing over the top while the lack of such versatility and adaptability would have left you with an average result.

CK, great job by you and Mallard. Congrats to you both!

Good Fishing To You,

Jason "The Fisher" Pence

Things went great for my son and I on opener! We stayed to the rough side of the water and waited for the sun to warm up the water and bam they started to hit! We should of been done alot earlier but we lifted a fish while two boats went by and they moved in and bobbered up. Oh well just made us try a little harder. Codi really laid the smack down on me this weekend. I guess I have created a fishing monster......
