I've watched the In-Fisherman episode 2 weeks in a row (outdoor channel showed it the last 2 Mondays for some reason) and they've shown chatterbaits being used. I haven't used them yet since I've never seen them SOLD even until yesterday at Wal-Mart. You can bet I'll have them out for the opener though since I'll try JUST about ANYTIHNG (lure-wise) once.

Here is a chatterbait.

I haven't used them personaly but they are supposed to make alot of noise as they move through the water. From what I have heard they are a pike magnet.

What end do you tie the line to? Only bass guys would come up with something like that. smile smiley

The secret to fishing is to catch the biggest fish and to catch it early.

I've been using chatterbaits for about a year and a half now. The were origionaly made by Rad Lures. A small company owned by a father and his son. They origionally made the lure in their basement, but two years ago in the BASSMASTER Classic a pro took 2nd using pretty much nothing else exept a couple chatterbaits. The lure instantly become a must have and the company had to shut down temporarily to figure out how they would meet such a demand. They sell for about 7 dollars, however i can remember putting in an order for 10 of them, paid for them, and then received an email stating I should receive them in the next 4 to 6 months! They were selling on EBay for about $25 dollars a peice. Thats how hard the lure was to find!

Are they worth $25? Probably not. However they are a pretty sweet lure and very simple to use. They combine three top notch bass baits all in one. A jig, spinnerbait, and crankbait. They vibration that they put off is amazing. I have caught a ton of bass on the lure and some of the biggest pike as well.

I would recomend the Rad version. However I know there are a lot of good knock offs out there. Booyah makes a real nice version. All you have to do is cast and retrieve. GAME ON!!

Obviously the version used on In-Fisherman (and also on 'People who Fish') was the Booyah version but I've seen a couple types and they look the same. I'll finally try out a chatterbait Saturday.

I finally got a chance to USE the 2 chatterbaits I bought yesterday after the rain. While it wasn't exactly a good time to be out fishing.. I think it was way too 'calm' weather after some evening showers, I wanted to at least get used to what chatterbaits do in the water.

I caught 1 smallie in about 100 casts with a white chaterbait (threw the same or more with a green/chartreuse color and didn't catch anything.)

It seems that the chatter bait, which I think is designed in the Jig family by people who in the last couple years 'ripped rigs' along the surface, catches fish on the pause and drop. Though, I only caught one fish and IT was on a pause, so we'll see what happens when the smallies really start biting in a couple weeks. (this time of season I rarely catch many smallies, not till the middle of june usually.)

The package says it can be used as a jerk bait, jig, or spinnerbait so I wanna see the PIKE chasing it when I pull it fast near the top!
