Yep…I got it about this time last year. It was sent to me by one of my fishing pals. It was nice… logo on the front, handle on the back. I loved it and vowed I would wear it all season. It was an unexpected surprise and it sat on the shelf ‘til the season was to begin.

Looking back, I can tell you that it went through a lot. Fingers greasy with bait juice would adjust it, leaving trails behind. Dropped in the sand a few times, I would dust it off and plop it back on my head. When it got really hot, a band of sweat circled around the front. But still I wore it. I thought it was one of the best gestures somebody could show me; going through the trouble of having it made; sending it to me.

I remember once heading out in the boat very early in the morning, and it flew off my head. It went sailing through the air and landed in the water. I circled ‘round and found it, half beneath the water. I pulled it out and shook it off and plopped it back on my head. It looked cleaner then it did before… at least the sweat was gone.

On really hot days, it actually bugged me. I would take it off and throw it on the dash. But as the sun waned and it got cooler, back on the head it would go.

It was with me the full season, through to the ice and well into the new year. Every fish I caught last year, it was with me. I don’t consider it lucky, things seemed about the same, but I liked it anyway. Maybe this year it will hit that “lucky” status.

The other day, I saw it on the shelf and decided to put it on. It was getting closer to the opener, so… what the heck. I walked downstairs and the wife took one look and said, “Give me that… you’re not going to wear that grimy thing like that!” So, I gave it to her. At first I thought she was going to throw it away. In fact, I panicked. But the next day, there it was, stretched out on an overturned pot, drying. It looked great. In fact, fairly close to new. She had washed it and made it nice again.

So now it sits on the shelf. Every time I go into the closet, it seems to be waiting. I know this is crazy, but I swear it is sitting there asking… “So? When we getting out on the water again?” Soon, I think… soon. Yep…I got it around this time last year and I’ll probably wear it all season again. It will probably get dirty again with bait juice, sand and oil. But I don’t care. I’ll wear it until it falls apart. Seems the least I could, being such a nice gift and all. Besides, I don’t think the thing would have it any other way. Sure the other ones sitting on the shelf are jealous, but I don’t care. They get their turn when I am doing other things. But this one has all my the fishing time reserved. That’s just the way it is.

Thanks Pier

If I could just maybe touch that hat this year maybe I could catch half the fish you normally catch this year on the opener, which by the way is in 15 days, 4 hours, 46 minutes and 10 seconds... smile smiley

I had hat like that. NEVER fished without it, and the summer I had it I caught the most and the biggest fish ever. Then one of my dogs (puppy at the time) thought it smelt good, so he ate half of it and I couldn't wear it any more. frown smiley

You can see it if you go look at some of my pictures here holding up all the bass. It was a red spiderwire hat with a black stripe zig zaging from front to back and the spiderwire spider on the front.

I still havn't had a summer like one. frown smiley

Pier Bridge... What a kind and thoughtful thing that was you did with the hat. Most of us have great appreciation for Webdude. His giving of himself into this site for the improvement of our sport is one that deserves a good deal of applause. I try to voice that every so often... however, you went on to do a more tangible expression of that appreciation. Great job Pier Bridge. That is an excellent example you have set for others.

Webdude....Again, many thanks for the time, effort, energies, and money you have expended in enabling us to have this venue of communication about the sport we all dearly love. Also, thanks for sharing the story about the hat. It was very cool.. and very touching as well. Thanks for sharing the experience!

All right.. enough of this emotional sloshing...time to go stick a ski!

Have a great weekend jerking some fish lips guys. Stay safe and much success to you.

Good Fishing To Ya,

I love favorite hats!
I have one just for hunting fishing and vacationing!

Is it wrong that they all look the same and say "Lund" on them? smile smiley

My wife won't even touch my fishing hat. Every year I buy a new Twins cap with the old TC logo on it, same exact hat every year. I wear the new one for normal everyday type stuff and the old one from last year becomes my fishing hat. Well that was the plan until I found one hat to be more lucky then the last hat so I have hung onto it. I think its been 3 seasons now. Never been washed, I don't want to wash the lucky out of it. If it needs to be cleaned I just go fishing in the rain.

Ah the fishing hat.

What, or who, do I have to do, to get a "MY Fishing Pals" hat?
