Ok, this promises to be a hot topic I am sure. I hesitate to even post it becuase I am sure that my ideas on this topic don't match most of yours.

What do you guys think on the topic of gun control?

Personally I think that hand guns don't serve a real purpose in our society. They exist solely for the purpose of letting people exercise their right to bear arms. If hand guns were banned how would that negatively effect our society? Fact is it would'nt.

People carry hand guns for protection but studies have proven that most people who own hand guns for protection are most often killed by their own guns. And if hand guns were banned what would you need protection from?

How many murders and crimes are committed with hand guns?

Banning them still allows you to own rifles and shotguns for hunting. And Shotguns are also proven much better for home protection then hand guns.

I am sure I won't be Mr. Popularity for my ideas on this topic but frankly I am just fed up with how many people are killed by handguns.

Any other thoughts on this topic? Remember lets keep it constructive and civil.

You're right, it will be a hot topic! Sorry about leaving it at that, but I think your point is faulted. After all Most guns used in crimes are not legal anyway(I know the VT incident is different), so what good would it do. I have owned hand guns and have friends that own them as well. I would be Extremely upset with anyone saying I have to give them up because some stupid person doesn't know how to handle one and hurts themselves!

Before we get onto your plan for disarming law abiding citizens let's hear how you plan to disarm criminals. Until then, it's hardly worth discussing.

All hand guns start out as legal guns, until they are stolen. Criminals aren't at home making these guns themselves.

Banning hand guns won't do any good in regards to the guns that are already out there but it would atleast stop more guns from getting onto the street. It would in fact take years and years to get hand guns off the streets, really it would be a one at a time kind of thing and slowly over time it would happen.

I realize this will never happen, but I still fail to see the benefit hand guns have on our society.

A hand gun in the first class room in Virginia could have ended it quickly. What am I saying. The class rooms are gun free "safe" zones. No one could get hurt there.

Hey NoFish,I'm against cars cause they kill too.
I'm against the sun cause it causes cancer that kills.
I'm against humans ,because they are predators that kill.

You get my point.
A gun does not kill just the guy behind the trigger.
A car does not kill just the guy behind the wheel.

Another real issue is that by allowing hand guns to be banned ,you then open the door to letting the anti's get that much closer to banning long guns& rifles.

Protection of our rights, civil liberties, constitution are all backed by the gun.
True most folks do not need one for protection on the street ,but think about the burgler who thinks you are armed.Chances are he'll walk right by your place.

I do think anyone who owns one should be educated to the enth degree.
Heck my brother was killed by a guy with a gun.
I know how fast things happen.

We are always going to have sick bastards in our society that will do things like what just happened in VT.

How about banning computors. There are so many child molesters using them to gain access to our children.
Now that would hit your pocket book!

The poeple that kill or commit major crimes will not care if hand guns are band. It will only make it ileagle for resonsible poeple. I can make a gun out of a pipe a nail and a shell.....I don't think Banning hand guns is the way to go. Those how commit crims will still find way to get them. I say arm everybody!!(take that with a grain of salt).
I have childern...I fear for them in the world we have. I would jump in front of a bus if I needed to..to protect them. But, Poeple that do bad things, will continue. No matter what laws are implace.

Brings me to the .08 legal limet. (drive and drinking)...Did we keep the person that has 4 (working on 10) DWI's from drinking and driving, did we sway the people that get into a car that are so bomb'd they can barly walk....No! what we ended up doing is making more criminals....Now the guy that stops to have a beer after work with his buddies better leave after just 1, Because 2 beers makes him impared to drive. I am sorry, I don't buy into this stuff. Make laws tougher that only hurt the "responsible People" and don't even make a dent on the ones that are doing the major wrongs. my .02

No one has given me a valid benefit we recieve in our society by having hand guns.

Cars and the sun have valid benefits, hand guns do not.

I understand peoples points about letting the Anit's win but frankly I don't buy it.

Everyone takes an US vs. THEM approach to civil libirties. Lets just fight for all libirties just becuase we can. The ACLU does this, and they have actually fought for the right for people to own child pornography just becuase they don't want anything banned.

Here's a valid benefit for having a hand gun. If I'm minding my own business and someone comes up and decides he wants to kill me for some reason, say he wants my fishing pole. I have a chance at killing him instead. I (the good guy) live. He (the bad guy) doesn't.
