Ok, I have probably mentioned this...I do alot of camping/fishing in the BWCA. I recently picked up a bow-mount trolling motor for my 14.5 boat. I have a 88 25hp Merc(pull start) on it and love the motor other then it won't charge batteries....I started looking onto a newer motor after buying the bow mount and decided I just didn't have the money to go that route....called around and found that they sell the charging system and that it was cheap....$140 Just got everthing hooked this past weekend and works great! Everything was thier on the motor...being that is was sold in electric start also. Pop the fly wheel off and bolt the new peice on the stator, bolt in the recifricator, and run wires....Just thought I would pass that on....I can't be the only guy that has wanted a small pull start motor to charge batteries. God willing...that old Merc mite be around a lot years now.
I just went to the mercury web site looked up what I needed. If you buy the "chraging system" be sure that it has the new peice to bolt to the stator. For me I had to buy the electric start kit and then my local deal shelfed the starter and deducted that price off the kit.....But its all OE parts. Some kits had the stator peice and some didn't depending on the model...You will just need the seiral #'s off your motor. (if its a merc). Very easy to install, but you do need a puller ($15) to pop the fly wheeel off.

If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
