How long should a Trolling Motor last? This will be the 3rd year on a 55# Maxxum and I wonder if I'm pushing it. I figure I put on somewhere between 350 to 500 hours a year on it.

That is getting up there. Maybe get one as a backup in case you do need it. Better to be safe than sorry. Batteries vary so much. Some won't give you what you have gotten and some will give you a lot more. I usually allow the battery to tell me. Chances are if you are wondering than you are getting close to needing new ones.

That is some serious trolling! Congrats!

It's all a crap shoot with todays electronics but I would think you should be OK the Maxxums are pretty tough.

Is it transom mount? I just picked a Minn kota Vantage and I'm planning on doing a lot of back trolling this year.

Didn't you pick up a 4-stroke outboard recently I suppose you could always troll with that if the Maxxum went south.

Yeah it's a transom mount. I definitely put on 2 or 3 times the hours on the trolling motor than the Yamaha 2-stroke. I was looking hard at a new rig this spring but I think I'll wait until at least the end of the season before I pull the trigger.
