Hi my name is Will, and I’m currently living in Toronto, Canada. This weekend, my family and I will travel to East Michigan University for a basketball tournament. I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about fishing in Detroit and surrounding area. With great fishery, there must be a lot of competitive fishing tackle stores.

My question is what are some of the best fishing tackle stores in the surrounding area? I’ve heard great things about Cabela’s, but it’s at Dundee, which is far. I’ll be staying at Plymouth.
*** I will FOR SURE buy the Hummingbird 797 SI Combo. Where can I purchase this unit with the best pricing? If someone can REALLY convince me, I’ll try to get my dad to get the 900 series laugh smiley (that’d be awesome!)

So basically I’m looking for tackle stores that is:
- easy to reach, near Ypsilanti, Plymouth, Detroit.
- Carries a good varieties of fishing accessories
- Cheap, reasonable pricing
- MUST HAVE Hummingbird 797 SI Combo***

Name, location, postal code, town.

Tell you the truth, us Canadians are paying a bit more for the same fishing equipment. With 14% taxes, going to Michigan this weekend is truly a great opportunity for my parents to explode their credit card laugh smiley

Mmmmm...

First off...

Hey young_one,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Not sure if we can help, someone might chip in, but we pretty much all are from the Minnesota area. We do get posts from WS, SD, ND IA. I remember someone posting from Michigan, but to tell you the truth, I know I can't help.

Anyone else?

Will, I grew up in the Detroit area (don't live there now) but it was on the east (other) side of town from Plymouth/Ypsilanti (where Eastern Mich. is) so I'm not real familiar with the area where you will be and whether there are any tackle stores around. I know after I moved to Fla. they opened a Bass Pro/Outdoor World at the Great Lakes Crossing mall in Pontiac, but that is an hour or so north from where you will be. Given that you will be coming from Toronto, maybe the extra hour isn't a big deal if you can save a bunch of $. As for smaller stores, sorry but I can't help.

My suggestion is that you go to www.michigan-sportsman.com, which is a forum for fishing in Michigan, sign up and ask your question there. Hopefully you'll get a response. Good luck in your tournament and enjoy your trip.

You might give Fishing Tackle Grab Bag a call @ 1-877-257-4771 to see if they stock the item you are looking for. They are located just east of Lansing in Davison, MI. Address is 5521 North State Road, Davison, MI 48423. From Toronto it appears if you have the time, swing west on 402. Runs right into Davison and on to Lansing.
You can then head south to Plymouth.

I just bought an ultra light rod I've been looking for from them, prices decent and service great.
