I am not taking sides here, but they might both be wrong. The western half of Lake Erie might be the best walleye fishing in the world. Port Clinton, Ohio also claims to be the walleye capital of the world.

Maybe we need a group outing to all three places to figure it out for ourselves . . .

I read this article with great interest. I always thought that Baudette was considered the Walleye Capital, now I see there seems to be some controversy. So, how do you get something like this resolved?
By the way, I fished for 'eyes out of Escanaba, MI and that ain't no Walleye Capital, believe you me

Actually, where I am originally from in Michigan (suburban Detroit), I might go there right now. The American sides of Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair River, the Detroit River and the Michigan part of Lake Erie have no closed season on walleye, so you can fish year round. I caught plenty of nice ones growing up there. Last spring (from April through June) my bro-in-law kept track of his catches so he could report them to the Mich. DNR (he used to work for them), and fishing 10-12 days a month he caught over 400 walleye. So it is a pretty good fishery, don't know if it is the walleye capital of the world but it can hang w/anywhere.
