My son and I are putting together a survival pack for gun safety class. I know the basic stuff, compass, map, mirror, flint for starting fires. But what else would be a good thing to have just in case?
Some sort of shelter is critical. Something as simple as a sheet of plastic to keep the wind and rain off or better yet a large piece of leather or vynal becuase it won't tear.
Something like the silver foil blankets that come all folded up the size of a deck of cards is great to have for warmth or for a shelter.
A good knife is essential, hatchet would be nice as well.
A whistle will help alert rescuers.
A rope is always a very useful tool.
And maybe a small first aid kit.
You might not be able to fit all of these into your survival kit but a knife and the foil blanket are small and very important so I wouldn't leave them out.
now adays I would make sure I had a cell phone. also some rope if I could. If Ithink of anything else I will let you know. watter and some watter tablets that makes watter safe to drink.
