70 days till opener seems like a lifetime I a tired of the cold and snow even though it doesnt look like it is going anywhere soon.Lets talk Walleye tactics for opener.

What Lake are you gonna fish for opener?
Why you fish this lake for opener?
What presentation are you planning?
Whats Biggest fish you ever caught on this lake?
Any good stories to tell?

This might be stupid but I am gonna roll with it.

Roll with it those are absolutly all good questions,
I plan on hitting Winnie this opener once again after umteen many years. usually for opener as with many lakes that time of year you want to hit the areas that warm up faster, can you say Rocks or Sand.
jig and minnows usually do the trick for me and have been very successful.
Why fish it because my friends fish it and it is a good feeling to be hanging out with friends on opener.

Good luck in 69 days.

I am thinking Mille Lacs. I know how original am I? I am going to fish there beacuse it's the BOMB!! And my we have a family cabin in McGregor. I may also visit Big Sandy. The largest eyeball I ever caught on Mill Lacs was just over 7 pounds. Big but I have seen much bigger. Remember I'm a bass guy. And I will probably throw shad raps, jig worms and if I have to jig and minnow. Although the opener isn't for another 70 days you will soon find me tuning up on the lower Mississippi near Red Wing and Wabasha.

I am real interested to hear where everyone else is going. Good post!

I am gonna hit Big Sandy in the shallows and a few spots that I have found over the years. Going to be using a small jig with crappie or fathead minnow fishing real slow. The largest Walleye I ever caught in Big Sandy was a 6 pounder but have seen 2- 8 pounders caught by others. Good luck to everyone and thanks for the posts fisheye01

I am going to be doing the Big Sandy thing, though I would love to hit Mille Lacs too. Some of the guys I fish with will fish the weekend on BS then hit Mille Lacs for a day, usually Monday. I might be doing that too. Not a big deal to pull the boat and head for the big pond on the way home.

Yeah, biggest 'eye I ever caught was on Mille Lacs. Not sure what it weighed, but it was close to 30 inches. I wish I would of had a camara. Of course, I put the girl back. TapTapTap and I caught a whole mess that day, all in thew upper 20 inch range. It was a blast.

Hey Stick 'Em Lure... McGregor, heh? We got a place on BS.

I'll be hitting the Cannon River chain of lakes again this year. There are a number of lakes on the Cannon, and I'll just make a milk run of river inlets on each lake. I'll be using the usual fare, jig/minnow, or Rapala. I'll start at midnight and be done by the time the first early birds show up at the landings. smile smiley

Yea WebDude, actually we are on Minnewawa. Great little bass lake. How is the bass fishing on BS? I heard it was horrible. I have never tried BS for anything besides walleyes. Always fish either Minnewawa or I go to Mille Lacs for football sized smallmouths or GIANT muskies. Although I have to say the little river by Pier 65 looks like it would hold some hog bass! I also caught one of the biggest bass of my life from Rat Lake. I do admit BS has some excellent walleye fishing! And that new lodge is beautiful.
